Week 40/Week 1
***Need to finish update***
Wednesday, January 31st, I picked Kennedy up from daycare and as we were driving home around 4:00 I started having contractions. Meanwhile, Jason was picking my mom and Sandi up at the airport. Contractions continued for a few hours and then were coming every 3-5 minutes for an hour, but were not painful so I wasn't sure if it was actual labor or not. Around 7:00 I called my doctor and she said to go to the hospital to get checked. When we arrived at the hospital the nurses said we had two options and had to make a decision before they could examine me.
1. Check me, send me home, and charge insurance as an ER visit.
2. Check me, stay at the hospital over night and be induced in the morning. Back story: I was scheduled for induction on February 2nd, but I was going to call to cancel because I wasn't ready. In the nurses mind inducing me on the 1st was only one day earlier than I was scheduled for.
After LOTS and LOTS of contemplating Jason and I decided to stay the night, because I felt like my body was getting ready for labor and what if we went home and had to come right back.
So they hooked me up to the baby monitor and I was still only 2 cm dilated, but having contractions. Jason went to Jimmy Johns to get us dinner. They kept me hooked up to the monitor all night long because I continued to have contractions. My doctor was monitoring them from her house and had the nurse check me a couple of times to see if I had progressed because my contractions were so strong. Still only 2 cm dilated.
Induction started at 5:00 AM with pitocin. Around 7:00 AM the contractions became really strong. I felt most comfortable standing or sitting on the birthing ball. Around 7:30 AM my water broke and I was ready for an epidural, which took forever to come! Once I had the epidural, I could not stop shaking and needed oxygen. I then felt no pain what so every and was able to rest. Around 10:00 AM the nurse checked and I was 10 cm dilated and I began pushing (feeling nothing). The doctor was starting to get concerned if he didn't come out soon because he heart rate kept dropping. At 10:50 Kyler was born! :)
